GST, and Why It Changes
GST, and Why It Changes
GST on accommodation in India is not a single rate, and which one applies to your booking depends on the nightly rate of the home you chose.
The two rates
- 5% where the nightly tariff is ₹7,500 or below
- 18% where the nightly tariff is above ₹7,500
These are the statutory slabs, not our choice. ₹7,500 exactly falls in the lower band.
Which is why two bookings can look inconsistent
A ₹7,200 night and a ₹7,900 night are ₹700 apart in rate and a good deal further apart once tax lands. That is the boundary doing its work, and it is worth knowing about if you are choosing between two homes priced either side of it.
The rate is worked out on the nightly tariff, so if you book part of a larger house, it follows the rate for that part rather than the rate for the whole property.
The prices you see already include it
Every price on this site is GST-inclusive. The breakdown separates the tax out so you can see it, but the total at the top of the page is the total — we are not going to add tax to it at the last step.
On meals
Meals are a separate supply from the room and carry 5% GST regardless of what the room is taxed at. They appear as their own line with their own tax line.
Your invoice
The invoice shows the taxable value, the rate applied, and the CGST/SGST split (or IGST where that applies). The figures on it are the figures you were actually charged — we read them off the booking rather than recalculating them, so the document and the payment cannot drift apart.
